We just returned from a visit to Nicaragua. We stayed with Philippe Tisseaux at his fish camp, La Esquina del Lago Lodge. This world class Tarpon fishing lodge is located at the corner of Lake Nicaragua, the Rio Frio and the Rio San Juan. We enjoyed our stay and hope to work with Philippe in the future.
We meet an interesting family on the Rio San Juan. Enrique is the patriarch over his large family clan. He boasts that he and his wife have 23 children, 70 grandchildren and 100 + great-grandchildren. He says in addition to the kids he has with his wife, he has fathered a total of 100 children over the years. He is 80 years old, just recovered from prostate surgery and a double hernia repair and says he is ready to work on another dozen or so kids! His family lives in a river community along the river, built on stilts. They even have their own school. We donated money to the teacher to use as she sees fit to repair the school and buy supplies. They cooked our lunch over a wood stove.
Steve tried his luck at tarpon fishing, but the only one he got hooked was lost when the knot slipped and the fish got away…..lucky fish!
